Director — Brattleboro School of Dance

Position Overview

The Director serves as the artistic and operational leader of Brattleboro School of Dance. Moving between strategic vision and daily management, the Director oversees studio administration, curates curriculum, manages faculty, and fosters a healthy, inclusive community culture. This position is ideal for an empathetic, organized leader with a passion for community-rooted dance education.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program & Artistic Leadership (~50%)

  • Curriculum & Teaching: Curate annual Fall, Spring, and Summer class schedules across styles (ballet, modern, contemporary, etc.). Teach 2-6 classes a semester, pending teaching staff, needs, and budget. Engage with students to help guide their learning and growth.

  • Productions: Oversee production vision for annual performances (Nutcracker and Spring Show), partnering with artistic directors, choreographers, stage crew, and volunteers.

  • Faculty Management: Mentor, and support teaching faculty. Recruit faculty, as needed. Lead staff meetings and foster professional development and alignment with studio values.

2. Operations & Community Engagement (~35%)

  • Community Culture: Embody studio values of equity, joy, and accessibility. Serve as the primary point of contact for student and family inquiries, upholding clear, kind communication.

  • Studio Operations: Oversee day-to-day administrative functions, enrollment systems, and facility readiness in collaboration with administrative support staff and volunteers.

  • Outreach & Marketing: Guide local outreach, studio communications, and promotional campaigns to drive enrollment and maintain strong community partnerships.

3. Executive & Board Collaboration (~15%)

  • Strategic Growth: Partner with the Board to set long-term programmatic goals, manage annual operating budgets, and support fiscal sustainability.

  • Development: Collaborate on fundraising efforts, grant opportunities, and scholarship/work-study program expansion.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 5+ years of dance teaching experience with 2+ years in dance school administration, program leadership, or artistic direction.

  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead with empathy, resolve conflicts constructively, and build an inclusive, multi-generational community.

  • Operations: Strong organizational, communication, and basic budget management skills.

  • Pedagogy: Deep commitment to non-competitive, student-centered dance education across diverse age groups and skill levels.

Location: Brattleboro, VT (In-Person)

Position: Full-Time, Exempt | Salary: $60,000 / year
